New Web Site 2012

Introduction

At the deegree Summit (Joint PSC and TMC Meeting) on 2012-03-21 it was decided that a new web site is needed and that the committees members will share the effort to create that web site. This decision includes the following responsibilities:

Jens: Management of contents creation
Herman: Management of graphical contributions
All: Contribution to contents and structure

These pages here are a skeleton of the new web site, so that the PSC and TMC members can share the content creation process.

Structure of new web site

As a first step we made an analysis of the old web site and created a draft of the categories (menu items) structure of the new web site is as follows. The category names are linked to the new draft pages (text only).

C1	Home	This category is a single page which gives entry information to the user. The mission statement shall be presented here.
C2	About	This category is a multiple-page category which includes more detailed general information about deegree, such as information about the open source license, the project organization, contact points
C3	Documentation	This category is a single- or multiple-page category which gives information and URLs for accessing the documentation
C4	Download	This category is a single- or multiple-page category which gives information and URLs for downloading deegree components
C5	Community	This category is a single- or multiple-page category which gives information on available support facilities, such as mailing lists, the wiki, the trackers, etc. There was some discussion about the naming of this page and its corresponding content. The first draft name was "Support", now it is "Community", because that's basically what it is about. We reserve "Support" or even "Commercial Support" for commercial aspects.
C6	Developers	This category is a single- or multiple-page category which gives information on the current development community and how to contribute to deegree as a developer
C7	News	This category is a single page with a news collection

In the discussion (cf. rev. 21 of this page) it was decided to leave out categories C6 and C7 for the first version.
