This page outlines the development principles and the organization of the deegree project.
1. Principles
The deegree project aims to be an open-source Java framework for writing geospatial applications. Traditionally, our focus has been to provide implementations of OGC services and other building block for realizing professional spatial data infrastructures without license restrictions.
deegree originated as a research project of the Department of Geography at the University of Bonn. Some participant of this projected decided to found the lat/lon company to further improve the capabilities of the software and offer solutions based on deegree and professional support.
One major design principle of deegree is standard-compliance to enforce interoperability. In this respect, the OGC and the ISO/TC 211 standards
2. Organization
The deegree project consists of 5 organizational entities, as there are 3 contributor groups (users, developers, committers) and 2 management committees (technical and strategic). These are described in more Detail in the Structures and Procedures of the deegree project
3. Participation
The deegree project welcomes contributions from everybody. Such contributions may be:
- Bug reports
- Patches (code enhancements and fixes)
- Documentation (e.g. tutorials)
