2. Installation
2.1. Get it up and running in 5 minutes
Please choose the appropriate description according to your system (Windows OR Unix, Linux, MacOS X, Solaris, ...), or you might prefer to use your already installed ServletContainer, like Tomcat or Jetty.
2.2. Windows
Make sure that you have installed the system requirements on your machine.
Download the deegree web services as ZIP from the download page.
- Unzip the downloaded file to a location of your choice and enter the location.
Double click on the file "start-deegree.bat" (and don't worry about the Microsoft security warning).
A console window will open up and show the tomcat logs of the starting services. Please do not close this window until you want to shut down the deegree web services.
2.3. Unix (Linux, MacOS X, Solaris, ...)
Make sure that you have installed the system requirements on your machine.
Download the deegree web services as TAR.GZ from the download page.
- Unpack the downloaded file to a location of your choice and change to the folder.
Double click on the file "start-deegree.sh" and run it in a terminal (or run the file from console directly).
A console window will open up and show the tomcat logs of the starting services. Please do not close this window until you want to shut down the deegree web services.
2.4. Servlet Container
Make sure that you have installed the system requirements on your machine.
Download the deegree web services as WAR from the download page.
- Deploy the downloaded WAR into your servlet container (e.g. by copying the file into $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps).
- If you haven't done so already, start your servlet container.
Point your browser to the start page of the deegree web services: http://localhost:8080/deegree-webservices-3.1.0/.

The services console offers an easy to use webapplication front end to configure many parts of deegree 3 configuration.
The workspace configuration describes the underlying files. Read this documentation to learn about the general deegree 3 configuration concept including common, service and dataaccess configuration. Recommended for users who know what they are doing when editing XML files.
